5 Myths about Home Remodeling
- DIY Always Saves Money
This can be true, but only if you really know what you are doing. The truth is, if you are trying to take on a big DIY project in an area you are not trained/proficient in it can end up costing you more in the long run—sometimes even more than just hiring the professional in the first place. - Remodeling is Fast and Easy
All the home improvement TV shows make home remodeling out to be an easy breezy process, but they are leaving a lot out. Home remodeling takes time and patience….and sometimes more time. Every step has a process and sometimes the flow of the process can be interrupted by outside forces, like weather or shutdowns. - Water Heaters are Maintenance-Free
The truth is your water heater needs yearly TLC. The tank should be flushed to rid it of built up minerals. Making sure you maintain your hot water heater will ultimately save you money and can ensure that your water heater is running as efficiently as possible. - Paint Hides Everything
Sometimes you need to address the source of the imperfection prior to slapping on some paint. Painting over a spot of mold may fall under the “out of sight out of mind” theory but it does not eliminate the underlying problem and will grow worse and cost you much more in the end. - All Home Improvements Add Value
The truth is not all home improvements are created equal. Some improvements, i.e a lift or a new roof, may simply bring your house up to code. Other improvements may be seen as luxury improvements and may actually make selling your home harder later on. Always make sure any improvements you are making to your home fit in with the neighborhood.
